What Is An Affiliate Network & How They Work

This post will concentrate on affiliate networks. We will look into what is an affiliate marketing network and also how affiliate networks work. Also, I will touch on, in my opinion, which affiliate network

What Is An Affiliate Marketing Network?

Firstly we need to establish what is an affiliate network before we jump into how they work.

According to Google, An affiliate network is a group of associated (or affiliated) companies that sometimes offer compatible or complementary products and will often pass leads to each other. A company looking to acquire new customers will pay Networkingmembers of its affiliate network for the sales leads that they provide.

In simpler terms, an affiliate network is a network of singular or multiple companies that offer affiliate programs for their products. For example, on one of my affiliate websites, thebestbuggies.com, I am a member on an affiliate network that promotes 3 or 4 brands that have affiliate programs that link to my niche.

What Is The Benefit Of Joining An Affiliate Network?

As an affiliate, you have a lot of options for running special offers and making money in doing so. The best and most efficient way to find new offers and get started, is to join an affiliate network(s). Not only do networks have a great deal of offers/merchants to choose from, but they offer support, creative services and some also offer free banners and ads to place on your site to help boost productivity. Most importantly, you can run several offers at the same time, then receive one payment at the end of the month.

See a list of some more benefits below:

  1. All tracking and payments are done by one network.
  2. Networks act as a middle man, and in most cases will pay their affiliates, if the network itself is not paid by the advertiser.
  3. Rewards programs and incentives. A lot of networks like to motivate their affiliates to bring in more volume and earn more money. Some networks offer a 1-2% bonus on monthly earnings, or will reward affiliates with vacations or other prizes.

My #1 Recommended Affiliate Network

There are many online affiliate networks to join. Some are free to join and just require a bit of patience while they accept / deny your application, whereas others do charge a fee to join. Obviously, I recommend the free platforms although some networks do require a joining fee. The joining fee is normally small and refunded once your application has been accepted. Not all networks refund your joining fee however they normally offer an incentive or reason for this. I will cover other affiliate networks in future posts (click here). However, for the time being my favourite affiliate network is Awin.

Awin is an affiliate network based in Berlin Germany, here is what they have to say about themselves.

“With twenty years of experience, our network offers a global community of people, technology and business intelligence insights. No matter what type of partner, level of service, or tools your business needs, Awin provides solutions to drive sustainable growth. Part of the Axel Springer and United Internet Groups, with ShareASale, Awin’s global affiliate network is powered by 15 offices worldwide, over 1,000 employees, 200,000 contributing publishers and 15,500 advertisers. Connecting businesses with customers in over 180 countries across the retail, telecommunications, travel and finance verticals, Awin generated €15.6 billion in revenue for its advertisers and €694 million for its publishers in the last financial year.”

So as you can see there is plenty of potential to earn big money with Awin. Awin will charge you £5 to join their network. However, this is refunded if your application is accepted.

Awin was the first affiliate network I joined. The turn around time for acceptance or decline was roughly 24 hours. All you need to do is simply fill in your details along with your website domain and they will do a bit of research into your site and then make the decision on whether to accept you or not. If you are not accepted, I suggest you build on your site more (create more content etc) then try again.

As you can see here, I have applied for another profile with them for the purpose of this post. You will also see one of my other accounts that’s linked to another site of mine. This particular profile is approved and open.

Another Great Way To Earn Commission With Awin

Awin and many other networks offer heir own affiliate program which, once your application is approved, you are automatically enrolled in. Therefore, you can recommend Awin to other marketers and gain a commission for those that sign up to them. Most affiliate marketers will have an account with Awin as it is one of the most known networks out there therefore finding referrals can be quite easy.

You can earn up to £30 per publisher referred to Awin! Refer ten and you have yourself a cool £300!

Further Assistance With Awin & Any Other Affiliate Network

I have kept this post quite simple when it comes to explaining affiliate networks and also when talking about Awin. My reason for this is because when I first started out in affiliate marketing, along with MANY other mistakes, I struggled to understand what a network was and how it could help me. This was because after carrying out research I became overwhelmed with the information.

However once I managed to find my feet a bit more, I came across Wealthy Affiliate who are an online business platform who train you in how to start and grow your online business. They do this for FREE! Once I had started the training Wealthy affiliate offers I can to the network training stage. Kyle, one of the CEO’s of WA, shows you the best options and how to join them.
